As a continuation of monthly Toastmasters (TM) program, Pax Earth Nepal conducted its 4th Pax Earth Toastmasters on Saturday 25th April 2009 at its old venue Mrigasthali, Pashupati, Kathmandu in the amidst the woods enriched with pleasant natural environment. The TM program was conducted during 17.00hr to 18.00hr.

President Mr. Sujan Koirala called meeting to order by introducing guests Mr. Dinesh Rai from LEAD Nepal, Mr. Ram Sharan Paudyal and Mr. Prabhakar Acharya. President Mr. Koirala was also performing the role of Toastmaster of the day. He formally welcomed guests, participants and audiences. Theme of the day was “Environment.” This time, considering the interest and proficiency of Speakers, the standard languages of speaking were both Nepali and English.

TM Sujan Koirala introduced Speech Evaluator Mr. Manohar Sapkota, Timer Mr. Guna Raj Pyakurel, Grammarian Mr. Binod Prasad Mainali and Ah-Counter Mr. Harihar Sapkota. He then introduced manual speakers Mr. Prem Shah and Mr. Dinesh Rai. Mr. Shah and Mr. Rai were given the manual topics: “Global Warming” and “Environment and Youth” respectively. Both speakers were given 6 minute each for their speech. Mr. Prem Shah briefly explained the meaning of Global Warming, expressed why such is occurring, what would be the remedies and our roles to lessen global warming. His language for the speech was English.

Dinesh Rai started his speech with the meaning of Environment. He expressed how the present environmental situation of Kathmandu, how the people and vehicles are deteriorating the environment and how environment is affecting health and life of people. He also clearly highlighted the roles of youths in improving the environment. He vowed youths to actively involve in awareness activities and play their active role in maintain good and safe environment. Both Mr. Shah and Mr. Rai expressed their genuine and original views in attractive ways.

TM Mr. Koirala introduced Table Topicsmaster Mr. Shreebatsa Basnyat and handed the responsibility to carry out Table Topic session. Mr. Basnyat called Mr. Dipendra Dangol and gave the topic “If there is an unexpected rainfall here, what would happen in the meeting environment.” Similarly, he called Mr. Prabhakar Acharya and gave the topic, “Far from crowd, Mrigasthali Area.” The last speaker on Table Topic was Mr. Ram Sharan Paudyal. He was given the topic, “If you were appointed as a Mayor of Kathmandu Valley, how you manage the garbage of Kathmandu valley.” Each speaker was given 3 minutes to deliver their speech. They articulately presented their speech in interesting ways.

After the speech session, General Evaluator TM Sujan Koirala called for the reports from the evaluators. Speech Evaluator Mr. Sapkota, Timer Mr. Pyakurel, Grammarian Mr. Mainali and Ah-Counter Mr. Sapkota presented their reports on manual speeches and TT speeches. Then, Mr. Koirala gave general comments on the speakers and the meeting. The evaluators are satisfied with the improvements of speakers’ presentation skills.

At the end of the programme, the audiences applauded both the manual speakers Mr. Shah and Mr. Rai as priceless rewards. However, the evaluator committee picked Mr. Ram Sharan Paudyal as the best speaker among the Table Topic speakers for his clear, attractive and smooth speech in the stipulated 3 minutes time. All the participants and audiences gave a big round of applause to him.

Before the formal closing of the programme, President and TM Mr. Koirala requested guests, participants and audiences to express their remarks on the day’s TM programme. Guests, members and participants expressed positive and highly inspiring comments on the programme as a whole. They were quite impressed and vowed the continuity of this programme. Most of them want Pax Earth Nepal to organize Toastmasters twice a month.

The 60 minute long TM programme formally came to an end by President Mr. Koirala’s closing remarks. Mr. President thanked guests, participants and audiences for a wonderful and active participation and also appreciated the role of members of evaluation committee. He was quite delighted with the progress and standard of the programme and assured to organize the Toastmasters twice a month as far as possible. 13 persons attended the programme.
